Media Moguls Talk About Money

It’s not everyday you get to listen in to two of the most successful women in the world discussing their money.  In this interview with Oprah, JK Rowling opens up about her financial feelings, and Oprah joins in.

Oprah, a Foundational Clay Frequency, and JK Rowling, a Foundational Mountain Frequency, have a fair amount in common in their careers.  They both overcame early rejection to hit upon a cultural zeitgeist that propelled them to the absolute tops of their fields.  The Harry Potter book series has had over 400 million books printed in 69 languages. Oprah, is Oprah.  Media mogul, inspirational powerhouse, host of a myriad of programs on her OWN network and on 60 Minutes.

You wouldn’t expect them to be talking about their financial fears, would you?  But these two women have them, just like anyone else in the world.  Earth Frequencies are so capable and talented, they have an incredible capacity to genuinely change the world, and the cosmic counterbalance is insecurity.  I joke that Earth Frequencies have an owl on their shoulder going “whoooooo me?”  In Oprah and JK, for as much success as they’ve experienced, you can still hear the vague disbelief in their voices that they really did it, and that they left those hard times of their 20s behind.

Earth Frequencies tend to be slower movers, often coming into their own a bit later in life, using the lessons and learnings in their 20s and 30s to propel them into their life purposes in their 40s and beyond.  This can be frustrating early on when every answer feels like no, but for those Earth Frequencies with the tenacity to keep going, the results of their long haul efforts can be incredible, as we see with these two amazing women.

Financially, this can result in success later in life, and the challenge that comes with having to remind yourself who you are, and what your financial reality is now, instead living in the past.

If you’ve got Fertile Earth or Mountain Earth in your Frequency, realize that it’s ok to incorporate your heart into your work.   Remind yourself all the time how far you’ve come, and stay connected to the impact of your work in the world.

Make sure you update the narrative you tell yourself about your life — be realistic about where things are now for you.  Life is a process of growing more and more into yourself, and this is especially true for Earth Frequencies, and this interview shines a light onto what that journey has been for these two incredibly successful women.

If things have grown and changed financially, admit that.  Sometimes it can feel like being a success financially is a betrayal to your family, especially if you grew up hearing your family say negative things about people with money.  Find ways to honor and love your past, while stepping firmly into your present.  When you need to, talk to your friends about your journey, I bet they’ll can help you shine a light on how far you’ve grown into yourself.

Not Afraid of the Dark

Mountain Frequencies are incredible students.  When they find a topic that resonates with them, they are lifelong bookworms.  Soaking up everything they can on a topic, or topics, since their thirst for knowledge never slacks, happily dedicating years and years learning.  They love to learn and then turn around and help others by sharing their wisdom with them.  Sometimes these are book lessons, sometimes they’re life lessons.  Mountain Frequencies are true students of life, and whatever experiences they have, tend to be turned into really beautiful life lessons that they share with others.

Brené Brown is a Foundational Mountain Frequency, and we can see this clearly in her career trajectory.  She spent incredible swaths of time studying and researching, only to turn around and develop a second career teaching others about her learnings.  Mountain Earths’s also have a strong orientation towards having hard conversations, because they deeply believe in doing the deep emotional processing to learn the lessons that life is trying to teach them.  The fact that Brené  is now hosting these tough conversations on a national level, is a great example of her Mountain Earth energy.

She’s using her research around shame and vulnerability to shape how people learn about themselves, and ultimately do their emotional work, to have a healthier relationship with themselves, and others.  Her latest book. Braving the Wilderness, tackles the complex topic of applying these concepts to social and cultural change.

These are big topics, and Mountain, as the strongest of all the Frequencies, are made for big, tough topics, and handling them with nuance and compassion.  They have a natural skill-set for understanding complicated concepts and explaining them with simplicity and accessibility — that’s what makes them natural teachers.  When they’re grounded in themselves — Brené  talks about taking a year off her work to spend the time in therapy to work on her own stuff — Mountain have a deep capacity to be an immovable force of nature, changing the world around them in a positive way.   They are slow and steady world changers, gathering momentum as their live evolves and grows.

If Mountain shows up in your Frequency, find ways to put yourself first.  You learn through doing the deep emotional processing, and life has likely handed you a lot to process — take time for yourself.  As you follow your passions and curiosities, you’ll start to get a sense of the big impact you’d like to make.  The key to your success will be doing your internal work, so it doesn’t become the bottleneck to your life changing work.
